Notifications

Which browsers support push notifications?

On Android, push notifications work directly in the browser with no install needed โ€” Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Samsung Internet, Opera, and Brave all support them. The one exception is in-app browsers (the built-in viewer inside apps like Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok): those can't do push, so open StudyOwl in a real browser first.

On iPhone and iPad, Apple only allows web push for apps added to the Home Screen, on iOS or iPadOS 16.4 and later. No regular browser tab qualifies โ€” including Chrome, which on iOS runs on the same engine as Safari and can't receive push. To enable it, open StudyOwl in Safari, tap the Share icon, choose "Add to Home Screen," then open StudyOwl from the new icon and turn on notifications there.

If your device or browser can't do push, the notification toggle on your profile page will say so โ€” and either way you'll still see every notification in the in-app bell whenever you open StudyOwl.
