Starting a free-chapter trial

Don't want to wait for an admin to approve a book? Open any book and choose "Start free chapter" instead of "Request Access." That unlocks the book's very first chapter instantly — no approval needed — so you can start studying right away.

The free chapter is the real thing: its Practice Quiz, Skills Exam, and Mastery Challenge all work normally. Finishing your first practice quiz — pass or fail — earns you the First Steps badge. What a trial doesn't do is unlock the rest of the book; advancing past chapter one still needs full access, which an admin grants (and which lifts the chapter-one cap automatically).

A trial lasts 14 days. To ask for the rest of the book, use "Request Access" in the trial banner at the top of the book page. Your trial stays open while an administrator reviews it — asking for more never costs you the chapter you already have — and the banner changes to "Pending Approval" so you can tell the request went through. If it's declined, you simply keep the trial. Once it's granted, your progress carries straight over and the whole book opens up.
